Written for Him

that used to be me

Hi friends! So I realize I haven’t posted on here for the longest time, and I apologize for that. I was sorta trying to figure out who I was and I got very wrapped up in life, but here I am(: I got a random burst of inspiration, and I felt that words of the Lord speaking to me as I wrote this poem, so I hope you enjoy.

that used to be me

running around the street corner
dancing barefoot in the grass
reckless laughter
without a care in the world
it used to be me
the endless playdates
never ending imagination
nighttime never stopped us
from living the way
we’re supposed to
where did they go
the happy times we used to know
when we were so young
no expectations were held to us
and our only care in the world
was if we ran out of chalk
never having heard the word ‘stress’
never being exposed to unhappy thoughts
and where are we now
when did we transform
into self obsessed
undereating, overcaring
anxiety filled people
our only thoughts
about the tremendous bundle
of homework we stay up
’til the early hours finishing
we only care
about the present
about our grade point average
about what people think of us
we think that focusing
on the present
will build our future
but shouldn’t we have
better goals in mind
if the ones we spend
all our waking hours planning for
cause us to constantly breakdown
and swallow our thoughts with self doubt?
we shouldn’t
spend every waking moment
of our high school years
on the verge of a panic attack
and contemplating suicide
it’s not right
the images put into our heads
about our body size
the way our faces should look
how feminine or masculine
we are supposed to act
and how well we need to do in school
these images should not
determine our self worth
they do not define our daily rights
and we are so focused
on all of these images
that we forget
that God has a plan
a plan made
for every and every one of us
we can’t live with ourselves
if we get it wrong
but we must understand
that you don’t always
have it get it right
it’s okay
to fall sometimes
God will help you up
and fill your empty holes
with endless love
he’ll hold your hand
and he’ll carry you home
home to Him
and we don’t need
to live the perfect life
and be these societal images
because God has a plan
he doesn’t want you to be perfect
he doesn’t care about your grades
he just wants you
he wants you
and he wants you to be
the person he created you
and not anybody else
because what’s the point of living
this beautiful life God granted you with
if you’re anything else
than what he made you to be?
so slow down
it’s okay to play
but don’t forget to pray
and it’s okay to work
but you must remember
your relationship with Christ
defines who you are
and leads you on the pathway
to a faithful life
and the next time
you are tempted
to push yourself so hard
that you break
give yourself a break
because you’re better than this
you deserve more
you deserve a faithful life
that used to be me
and soon it can be
for when I follow my Savior
he will take my hand
and he will lead me there
with love,

Being Excluded

Throughout my life, I was that one person that was always being left out of everything.  The one who just quite didn’t meet the requirements of who to invite, the one who’s name they all forgot when they invited everybody else.  It happened so much that I was used to it, but it doesn’t mean that it still didn’t hurt more and more every time it happened.  When I walk with my friends I’m always the one who stands behind everyone cause there’s no more room beside them.  When I try to find a seat at lunch there’s no more chairs, but none of them are even willing to give up their spot by the friends they probably like more and come sit with me.  All of my friends are constantly being invited to parties that I’m not invited to, this is the story of my life.  (Side note, check out ‘The Lonely Crowd’ by Parentheses on Spotify, it’s made by two very talented and kind individuals I know, and it really relates to this blog post)

Let me tell you this, being left out sucks.  It really does, it hurts more than anything.  The worst part of it is when you think you’re best friends with a person, and then they don’t invite you to their birthday party (or Christmas party, large get together, sleepover with all of your friends, this list is endless).  You really have to find out the hard way that they don’t actually enjoy your presence, they were just pretending to like you because they’re nice people.  I tend to spend all of my time caring for people who don’t actually want my love or friendship, but they’re nice to me anyways.  I dump my soul into another person and they just ignore it.  They look at it and they see my soul just lying there, but when another soul comes by that they like more they dump my soul in the trash can and pretend like they don’t know me.

If any of you reading this post have ever felt this way, you know how hard it is.  It feels like there’s nobody you can trust or turn to.  Now I’ve been a Christian all of my life, but I’ve just had an awakening.  The answer to all my problems has been in front of me all this time, but I’ve been too blinded by the obstacles of life to see it.

You may not be connected with God all the time, but GOD IS ALWAYS THERE.  He never leaves!  He will always talk to you.  Picture your favorite person ever.  When you walk into a room and you see them, they’re your first hug.  You run up to them and embrace them in your arms and it feels so good!  You are God’s first hug.  All God wants is for you to be His!  Whenever you pray or worship Him, He gets such an overload of love.  He loves you more than you will ever be able to comprehend, His love for you could literally fill oceans.  We are completely and totally unworthy of His love, yet He still gives it to us!

Now think back to how you feel when you think you have this great friendship with someone, but they turn away from you.  They act kind of like a part time friend.  They’re there for you when it’s convenient, but when a better offer (or what they think is a better offer) comes along, they always take off.

That’s what God feels like when you turn away from him.  Even if you sometimes have great talks with him or go to church every Sunday, if you don’t follow him for life than what’s the point?  Don’t be a part time Christian.  Build up a connection with God and keep it there.  Keep talking to him every day, He should be your first hug.  Whenever anything good or bad happens, go to Him!  He will never get tired of your problems, He wants to hear you talk.  He wants to talk to you, so listen to what he has to say!

So here’s the moral of this blog post: People will not always be there for you.  They will always hurt you and exclude you, but let me tell you this.  God is always there for you!

Feminism Rant

Well hello world, welcome to my first rant of the blog.  I really hope I don’t scare you away, good luck reading this!

A few days ago I was walking on a side walk with a couple of my friends, when a car drives by, rolls down their windows, and whistles at us. I was pretty offended and concerned for the boys in the car, like what are they learning in school these days, to not respect high school girls walking down a side walk?

A few seconds later, and another car rolls by with their windows down. They literally threw a balloon at us and whistled. Who does that, did your mother not teach you to be a respectful and considerate person? Sure she did, but you think it’s funny and cool since you’re in the car with your friends. It’s all a joke to you, right? Is respecting women also a joke to you?image

I guess my point of this rant is basically about feminism, because how can I not rant about this subject. What makes it ok for a group of people to yell things at a nice group of modest Christian girls walking down the street? Nothing. Do some people think that women actually like when guys do this? The thought of some people intentionally doing this just makes me sick.  WOMEN ARE NOT ANIMALS.  Men don’t know what it feels like to be on the receiving end of this, and they probably never will.

I just hope that someday these people grow up and learn to treat every single person respectfully, and with equal rights; no matter what gender, ethnicity, or religion. I pray they grow to realize that all human beings are equal, and also I pray that they find the love of Christ somewhere in their hearts.

I hope this post didn’t sound too harsh, it’s just something that has always driven me crazy. May God (and respecting women) be with you!

Proverbs 31- Becoming the Woman God Wants You to be

Proverbs 31 is such an important and wonderful chapter in the Bible.  If you are you unsure about the woman God wants you to be, then continue reading!  Throughout the chapter it lists many characteristics of a Godly and Faithful woman.  If you want the full passage you can look up Proverbs 31 on the Bible app or Google, but right now I’m going to break it down into categories.

“Her husband has full confidence in her and lacks nothing of value.  She brings him good, not harm, all the days of her life.” -Proverbs 31:11-12

This is what I personally take from this verse: She is a trustworthy woman; her husband, her children, and everybody else in her life has complete faith in her.  They know she will never fail to take care of them, any one of them could easily put their life in her hands.  This ideal woman always tries her hardest to bring nothing but the best to her husband, and she stays faithful to him for all of her life.

“She gets up while it is still night; she provides food for her family and portions for her female servants.” -Proverbs 31:15

Always put your family’s needs before your own.  This woman sacrifices her sleep time to make the others in her family satisfied.  She is always providing for everyone because it is her duty to do so.  This one is hard for a lot of us to accomplish; I don’t know about you guys, but I like to get as much sleep as I can.  But the woman God is calling you to be is considerate of all needs.  God does not want you to be greedy, he wants you to serve him as well as take care of his other children.

“She watches over the affairs of her household and does not eat the bread of idleness.  Her children arise and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her: ‘Many women do noble things, but you surpass them all.'” -Proverbs 31:27-29

This passage is saying that we should watch over everybody and everything in our house, and also to not eat food if you haven’t worked for it.  Living in America and being blessed with lots of food, I (along with many others) often take for granted how lucky we are to get to eat every day.  Many people across the world and in less fortunate parts of where we live do not get the same privileges.  Always be thankful and gracious for your food, many are not as blessed with it as we are.  To continue on in the verse, her loved ones all praise her.  She is such a grand role model in all of their lives; we should strive to lead others with love, compassion, and the light of Christ.  When you become a great role model, people want to follow you and they will enjoy being in the midst of your presence!

A Working Woman

“She selects wool and flax and works with eager hands.  She is like the merchant ships, bringing her food from afar.” -Proverbs 31:13-14

“She sets about her work vigorously; her arms are strong for her tasks.  She sees that her trading is profitable, and her lamp does not go out at night.” -Proverbs 31:17-18

Both of these verses show how hard she works.  Day after day and night after night she works, and she does all of this for her family.  She is eager to work and she is strong, the job will always be finished.  It can be hard to find motivation to get work done, and sometimes it seems nearly impossible.  But with the strength of the Lord, we can move mountains.

Personality of a Proverbs 31 Woman

“A wife of noble character who can find?  She is worth far more than rubies” -Proverbs 31:10

These women are so rare to find, and they are worth so much.  We should all strive to be this woman, a Proverbs 31 woman.  She has all the best qualities, and she uses them to praise God and to honor her family.  What a wonderful life!

“She opens her arms to the poor and extends her hands to the needy.” -Proverbs 31:20

She truly loves all of God’s creations.  She takes ‘love your neighbor as yourself’ into action and is constantly performing acts of charity.  She is not selfish, and is not seeking a personal gain out of all of these things.  God supplied us with endless amounts of talent and capabilities, and we should use all of these things to praise Him and help others.

“She is clothed with strength and dignity; she can laugh at the days to come.  She speaks with wisdom, and faithful instruction is on her tongue.” -Proverbs 31:25-26

She never parts from her strength and honor, she is overflowing with these qualities.  A woman like this has more strength than you can imagine.  She is not frightened by the future, but excited!  She cannot wait for the days ahead of her, and the future God has in store for her.  It’s hard to not be stressed out about the future and what God’s plan is for us, but we just have to trust him.  It may not make sense to you now, but you just can’t see the big picture yet!  “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” -Jeremiah 29:11.  Going on with the verse, it shows how smart this woman is.  You should always be careful with the words you say, and think before you do anything.  Be wise; speak words of love and faith at all times.

“Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised.” -Proverbs 31:30

Wow, I love this verse so much because the words are so powerful and true.  Charm and beauty are things we use to impress people and feel good about ourselves, we really should not be focused on these things!  A beautiful woman is one who loves the Lord with all of her soul, and shows it in every way possible.  These are the true standards of beauty, and really the only ones that should even be considered.

Well, I’ve about said it all, thanks for reading this long post!  Proverbs 31 is such a beautiful and helpful chapter, it’s one of my favorites.  They are such great words to live by, and it really helps me to understand the kind of woman God wants me to be!

Luke 6:41-42

“Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye?  How can you say to your brother, ‘Brother, let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when you let yourself fail to see the plank in your own eye?  You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye.”

Self Image

When you’re in high school, it’s extremely hard to not care what others think about you. It seems as if your reputation defines who you are as a person. It’s so easy to get caught up in looks and fitting in that you don’t see what really matters.

The only reason you’re here right now is because of God; he has such an extreme passion for YOU, he cares about you. God is the only one that can judge us, and he likes what he sees(:

He made you specifically to look like you. You are your own person; nobody else is as wonderfully unique as you! Isn’t that about the coolest thing ever?!

God grieves when he sees you looking down on yourself. Whether you shame yourself for being ‘too fat’, hurt yourself in any way (emotionally or physically) because you don’t think you’re pretty or good enough, or simply dislike yourself, just remember that you are good enough in the eyes of the Lord. You are more than good enough, you exceed all expectations and bring a whole new aspect of life into this wonderful world.

You were literally chosen to be exactly who you are by the creator of the universe; now you tell me, why would you want to change that?

With love,

Welcome to my Blog!

Hello to all the people reading this! This is my first post, so I should probably introduce myself. My name is Katherine, and a basic description of my brain is that I’m an introvert with too many thoughts running through my head at full speed, so I thought I’d make a blog and write them all down! Hopefully I don’t bore you or scare you away, and maybe you’ll find a use out of my words.  I’m a 15 year old Christian and I enjoy writing, taking pictures of the beautiful world God has created, performing, and being in the presence some pretty wonderful people.

At this point you may be asking yourself, “why on earth is she even making a blog, who is this person?” Well, to answer your question, I honestly have no idea what I’m doing here. But I decided it would be a fun journey for me to attempt to travel(:

So the story of how I got here started about a week ago, at this Christian camp I went to.  Each night we had devotionals (which were very moving, I’m pretty sure we all broke down into tears each night) and then worship before and after the devos.  I go to this camp each year, and every time I do my faith always reaches a rising point.  But after this rising point in my faith, it always falls back down again.  So anyway, let’s go back to what I was saying, about camp.  This year at camp something really moved me.  I was listening to a devotional and they started saying ‘don’t let this week be a mountain top point in your faith’.  I prayed and thought about this a lot, so I’ve made up my mind.  My whole life will be this mountain top faith from now on, but the mountain will keep rising up.  I am not going to let myself sink down from this point, and I never want to.  So after camp ended, I started spending more and more time with God.  I started praying everyday, journaling, reading the bible, jamming out to Christian stations on Spotify, and just listening to God.  About a week after this, I felt God calling me to make a blog and share my ‘words of wisdom’ and stuff like that.  So I did, and here they are.

Well, I hope you like my blog! And if you don’t, well, there’s a lot of blogs out there, I’m sure you’ll find one you enjoy(:

With love,
